"Outdoorigami" (ôwt·dôr·é·gâ·mé)
The art of folding durable plastic into structural equipment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1. Is the TOTE 'N BOAT "soft" or "hard"?
In short, it is hard. It is made from a flexible material called Polypropylene
and is designed to "feel" like a hard & stiff Canoe when assembled.
There is more detailed information about this on the "TECHNICAL INFO." page.

2. How long does it take to set up?
The first time you assemble it you may take 15 to 20 minutes.
Once you "get the hang of it" you can expect assembly to take
as little as 10 minutes on average. If you're really good... about 5 min.

3. How much abuse can the canoe take?
The Polypropylene is Impact resistant and very strong.
In fact, it is stronger than most other plastic or fiberglass canoes.
Bumping rocks and branches will not damage it, even in below 0° weather.

4. How well does it "track" or handle?
The tracking or performance can be best described as being
somewhat like a cross between a standard canoe, and a kayak.
It does not have the weight and length of a standard canoe,
but it does handle better than your average kayak.
Keep in mind that the TOTE 'N BOAT is not designed to out perform
high-end canoes on the market. It was designed to be a very high quality
canoe with the ability to fold to a compact size. There is some "give & take".

5. Why doesn't it have seats that mount higher?
Since the TOTE 'N BOAT is so light-weight it means that you need to keep
a lower "center of gravity" to maximize stability. Standard canoes weigh enough
to allow you to sit higher, while the TOTE 'N BOAT weighs much less for portability.
Our Seat Planks add padding if a typical kneeling position does not suit you.

6. Do the folds leak?
The folds are engineered so that there is no open end below the top level
of the canoe. There are no seams, or open folds that come in contact with the water.
There are no "seals" to wear out either.

7. Do the folds cause drag?
The average draft of the canoe is 4" to 6" inches (depending on load).
There is very little folded area in contact with the water at those marks.
Drag, if any, is not really noticable.

8. How heavy is everything together?
The complete package including hardware and rails only weighs 31 pounds.
A fully loaded case with a canoe, parts, 2 paddles, and life vests still comes in
around 35 pounds.

9. Will it sink if it tips over?
The canoe material has a "neutral buoyancy" and will not sink
to the bottom. We have added "sponsons" (foam floats) to the side
of the canoe that will keep it up if swamped, even at full capacity.
If the canoe tips over, you can still paddle it to shore.

10. Can I put a small trolling motor on it?
Yes, but we do not recommend a standard "side-mount" version.
The TOTE 'N BOAT is so light-weight that it will cause tipping.
We carry a custom mount for small electric motors that "self correct".
